Ngā Mahi Rail represents the new generation of Rail Infrastructure specialists. As our name suggests, we understand that the quality of the work we produce is our trademark.
Pride in our work starts with the people at the centre of our values. Grow, support & nurture them to stand behind their work and have as much pride as we do. This spreads to the teams we work alongside and we value these relationships and collaboration based on prioritising respect and reliability.
Such a group of people will innovate and grow, both those around them and the communities we support; that is The Nga Mahi Way.
Ngā Mahi Rail was born in late 2020 and became operational in June 2021. We are a Tier 3 Track-certified company. We have put a focus on design and safety. Our Hirail equipment is best in class, with market-leading technology. As part of our commitment to doing things differently/better, we handpicked a Hamilton-based team of machinery specialists to design & build our gear.

Past Performance
Ngā Mahi Rail has had the pleasure of being involved in some big projects.
We were involved in the City Rail Link project from the moment we became operational, back on Queens Birthday weekend 2021.
We were the supplier for hi-rail plant and operators on the NAL for the construction of the new Down Main between Dominion Rd and Boston Rd. And then the removal of the old Up Main.
We also supplied plant and operators for the C9 project. From building all the new turnouts to completing the removal of the old track and concrete pad, and installation of all the new panels.
We have also been involved with various RNGIM projects, mostly around Silvia Park. Supplying plant and operators that are able to remove the existing track, complete the formation works and install the new track, ready for the running of trains.
Attitude
The rail industry has more than its fair share of entitlement mindsets. Unlike some others, we are not focused on ourselves.
We are focused on doing great Mahi as defined by you, the customer.
Example – We listened to the needs of the customer & fitted 3RCI technology to all of our hi-rail excavators. We are the first in NZ to introduce this tech. The system provides virtual ceilings, walls, slew limits, and full load exceed limitations.
Already showing its worth during C9, with permissions being granted by Kiwirail for Ngā Mahi excavators to travel adjacent to live wires with no ESO.
